The Shire of Miriam Vale is located between Gladstone and Bundaberg and is one of the fastest growing destinations in Queensland offering rural hinterland, untouched national parks, secluded beaches and access to the Southern Great Barrier Reef.

The population of 5,113 resides within seven townships and the surrounding rural areas.  The townships of Lowmead, Rosedale, Bororen and Miriam Vale are located along the rail corridor.  Miriam Vale, situated on the Bruce Highway, receives a rail service and is the administrative centre of the Shire.  Miriam Vale Shire is experiencing growth in the coastal townships of Turkey Beach, Town of 1770 and Agnes Water. 

Miriam Vale Shire supports timber, beef and to a lesser degree, dairy cattle and tourism is an emerging industry along the coastal strip that runs between Bustard Bay to the north and Baffle Creek to the south.
